Alessandro began sneaking into his father’s studio at the age of five, smelling the propane gas from lampworking, which became the smell of home for him. Growing up, he played with glass and, as a rebellious teenager, skipping school, experimented in a friend’s furnace.
When his father discovered him, the workbench became his school, where he developed his artistic skills, continuing a family tradition of four generations. As a boy, he often couldn’t sleep and would walk through the streets of Murano, breathing in the smell of molten glass. His grandfather worked at night, mixing minerals.
His father and Stefano Morasso were pioneers of the torch, innovating glassmaking. Alessandro created his own technique, combining tradition and American influences, and created works in the Gothic Baroque style, exhibited at the Murano Glass Museum. He learned to work glass by observing his father and, after his death, Cesare Toffolo became his mentor.
Murano glass, unstable and difficult to work, offers endless creative possibilities. Alessandro, born in Venice, has a deep connection with the lagoon landscape, seeing water and glass as a single entity. His atelier overlooks Riva Longa, where, with almost twenty years of experience, he creates brightly colored glass sculptures, assisted by Dario Vianello, always ready to share his passion for this fascinating material.
